This is a practical
approach to fostering a professional relationship with the media for effective
corporate reputation management. It takes the reader through a dozen tips that
can help the practitioner to understand how to respond to journalists' enquiries
by giving them the information they want and when they want it.

This book, by author
Yushau A. Shuaib, is a fascinating look at professional PR standards as viewed
by a highly trained/educated member of the field who lives and works in Nigeria.
As an American PR practitioner of long standing, I was intrigued to note both
the similarities and the differences of PR in two such diverse countries, and
conclude from this that international PR practitioners may have far more in
common than I'd ever thought before…Were I to again teach PR (and specifically
media relations) at the university level, I'd give serious consideration to
recommending this book as one of my "recommended reading" supplemental textbooks
- I think it's that good.

This is one of those must have’s for the
desk drawer or even the bedside locker for those of us exposed to the 24x7 world
of modern media in a globalised world. Here are the essentials – the core
building blocks for media relations, the basics on which the wise public
relations or media relations’ executive can and should build their own set of
tactical, strategic and industry specific ‘add ons’…From start – ‘Knowing the
media’ to finish ‘Get the feedback (and use it)’ this is a management handbook.
It identifies very clearly that there are no quick fixes, no short cuts, no
black arts or silver bullets in media relations. Each succinct chapter
demonstrates very clearly the extent to which for media relations to be
successful it has to be a structured and managed process… It highlights the
gains and the pains and is an insiders account of the practical approaches media
relations needs to deliver value for the investment… there are lessons for us
all in this book.

The author
has developed the tips step by step to enable the pr and communication
professionals to understand the concept better. I appreciate the author
for having brought out the need for good relationship between the management and
the pr professionals …and the concept of 'budgeting' effectively. Though
the author has written this book under Nigerian background, this book is a
good "Handbook" for pr professionals and management at an International level.

In this season when most people are more
concerned about bread and butter issues, it is rather commendable to find
youngmen like Yushau shuaib in public service who believe in advancing ideas for
the purpose of making our society better as can be glimpsed from his numerous
writings. It takes a lot of courage and commitment to certain ideas to put pen
to paper in our society today and moreso for someone who is still in the public
service with all constraints. This is a great worthy effort.
